Today we meet Michelle, the australian blogger of Michelle’s Style File.
Hi Michelle, tell us a little bit about yourself (who you are/what you do/where you’re from, etc.).
My name is Michelle Ruth and I am the blogger behind Michelle’s Style File.
I think fashion should be fun and a bit of an outlet from the craziness of life. I try and try to keep my looks accessible- nothing too crazy going on here ; ) I love my hometown of Melbourne, Australia where I live with my husband and two furry kids Bumble and Chewy.
How would you define your style?
I find this question really tricky to answer. I would say classic and feminine with a modern twist. My blog has really made me pay attention the details with regards to my outfits such as nail polish and jewellery, as well as be more creative with the clothes I own to keep my looks original and interesting for my awesome readers.
How did you find your sense of style?
Over the years it’s reaaaalllly changed. Around Year 12 I went through a heavy metal phase (pale face, black hair, skinny black jeans, black boots and flannel shirts). Then at uni there was a little bit of a hippy phase – I even had nose ring! Now I really appreciate the classic shapes and styles that stand the test the time and my style is quite feminine; I’m also certainly influenced by what is “in fashion”. There has been plenty of experimentation and fun along the way to find what works for me.
What inspired you to start a style blog? What motivates you to keep blogging?
I launched my blog in January 2011 as merely a record of my outfits. Little did I know what an amazing and inspirational community the bloggesphere is, and what a wonderful creative outlet my blog would become for me.
How did you choose the name of your blog?
I remember having a brainstorming sessions with myself. I felt it was important to have my name in my blog title.
What was the best comment you ever received from a reader?
I received so many amazing comments on my blog. I read every single one and really appreciate every comment I receive so much.
Who/what inspires you?
The bloggesphere is such an amazing source of inspiration! There are some bloggers out there who nearly every outfit post I exclaim out loud “she’s done it again!” Karla from Karla’s Closet and Nicole from Gary Pepper Vintage are seriously superstars.
What is your top fashion tip?
Turn all your hangers backwards in your wardrobe. As you wear each item return the hanger the normal way. I find this helps me make the most of my wardrobe and I can clearly see what isn’t being used.
What advice do you have for new bloggers or people considering starting a blog?
Love what you do, and get involved in the blogging community. It’s such a fun place to explore and be a part of.
Your first thought in the morning?
Is it really time to get up! I generally stay up far to late at night blogging away, making it rather difficult to get up in the morning : )
What is your favourite thing to do when not blogging?
Spending time with my husband out and about in fabulous Melbourne, or catching up with my girlfriends over a glass of red. I love a good read as well.
