Meet the Fashion Bloggers Mwanwan

22 enero 2014

In this series, we’ve been interviewing some of our favorite fashion bloggers around the world, today our featured blogger is Michelle of Mwanwan.

Tell us a little bit about yourself (who you are/what you do/where youare from, etc.).
Hi. I’m Michelle and I’m a fashion and food blogger from Hong Kong living between London and Hong Kong. I’m also a textiles and fashion design graduate now studying garment technology in the UK.

How would you define your style?
I would say I dress simply but still try to be feminine, wearing pieces I really like but still feel comfortable in too. So normally I match statement pieces like bags, shoes or other accessories with simple silhouettes to spice up my outfits.

How did you find your sense of style?
When I was growing up I loved fashion and shopping with my mom, she really inspired me and as she’s very feminine when I was old enough to start shopping and dressing for myself being “ladylike” came naturally!

What inspired you to start a style blog? What motivates you to keep blogging?

Before, if I was going out for special occasions Id try to mix-and-match different things, or when I ‘m on vacation I like to take photos with my friends and family so I can keep for myself memories to look back at. Looking back at these photos at my style and that period of time – really inspired me. So I thought why not start a fashion blog and document my outfits day to day. From my blog I see myself developing as a stylist for myself and see trends coming in and out that I would’nt have normally noticed. I think it s so important to keep yourself realistic but trendy as the same time. I’ve finally started blogging in March of this year because back then – I thought it was my finally year in London and wanted to record this year.
Apart from fashion styling and blogging I’ve also added some of my own food recipes. I love to cook and like I said, every dish you’ll see is my own creation.

How did you choose the name of your blog?
The name was easy (mwanwan) its simple and straight forward. M is for my name Michelle and Wan is my surname. Wan is repeated because a lot of my friends love to call me Wan (or Wanwan) instead of Michelle. I thought it was really cute so I settled with that. It really makes me feel that the blog is personal to me makes me feel like a really OWN it.

What was the best comment you ever received from a reader?
OMG I really like your blog! Wonderful I love your fashion style and everything else! I really love it.¨ It sounds cheesy, but stuff like that really makes me feel like the effort I put in is worthwhile.

Who/what inspires you?
To be honest I like so many things! People who are dressed so chic and beautifully and who make dressing up seem so effortless. I see inspiring dressers every day and if I see something that I could work I try to tweak it to match my own style.

What are your favourite pieces in your wardrobe?
My FAVOURITE pieces are my leggings, they’re so comfortable and honestly I can’t live without them, especially in London as it gets so cold here don’t laugh !

What is your top fashion tip?
Wear what you like and not what everyone else is wearing. The most important rule is to be and dress for yourself.

What advice do you have for new bloggers or people considering starting a blog?
Be yourself and write a blog that represent you and your own thoughts not anybody else’s

What importance do social networks have for you?
Our generation especially involves regular use of Facebook, Twitter and many other networks. Therefore, I think they ARE important and of course I use Facebook a lot myself i.e. for my blog page. I think networking is the best way to connect with my followers and hopefully reach out to a wider audience.

Your first thought in the morning?
What’s the temperature and what should I wear!

What is your favourite thing to do when not blogging?
Shopping, hanging out with my family, my boyfriend and my friends.

For you, what is the world’s most fashionable city?
Um, New York and Paris can I say both? Everyone dress so chicly, trendy and intelligently. It’s fabulous!

How would you describe fashion in the city where you live?

In Hong Kong there’s a mixture (e.g classic tailoring, feminine, gothic and lots of girls are inspired by Japanese girls and Japanese magazines)

What message do you hope to send to your readers?
I am who I am I hope you all like my style, my opinions and enjoy reading my blog and trying out my food recipes!
