Meet the Fashion Bloggers Patchwork à Porter

22 enero 2014

In this series, we’ve been interviewing some of our favorite fashion bloggers around the world, today our featured blogger is Sabrina of Patchwork à Porter.

Sabrina, tell us a little bit about yourself (who you are/what you do/where you’re from, etc.).
I’m Sabrina Tassini, an Italian blogger of Patchwork à Porter fashion blog, I was born and I live near Bologna moving to Milan during Fashion Weeks and events. I live between university books, articles, photos, outfits and I love wandering through the world in search of inspiration. Outside of blogging I am a student in fashion and marketing communication, insanely fashion addicted, art lover and crazy globe trotter.

How would you define your style?
My style is clean, minimalist and full of vintage treasures. Up to now I love mixing rock items like studs or leather with bon ton ones, I think it’s a great combination. I follow trends but always staying into my personal taste and I love wearing clothes make me feel good, boho chic, but most of all comfortable and not only fashion.

How did you find your sense of style?
I think it depends on my background. I spent my childhood breathing in closets, trunks full of clothes and accessories. My mother, as my grandmother before her, was affectionate to chic boutiques and now opening their wardrobes I always sought out new vintage treasures that I wear every day to combining with my contemporary items. I also enjoyed whit cut out my favorite outfits from fashion magazines and then I reassembled those into collages.

What inspired you to start a style blog? What motivates you to keep blogging?
I love writing, in fact before opening this blog I had another one in which composing short texts of creative writing, a kind of poetic virtual diary, but fashion has always been my main interest since childhood. Then I thought “why not join them?” And so last December was born Patchwork à Porter, the fashion blog in which I vent both passions.

How did you choose the name of your blog?
The title was perhaps the most difficult step in the creation of the blog. I was looking for one that was closely related to my philosophy of life. The word “Patchwork” literally means “work with the pieces” and the second part “à Porter” means “to wear”. I think the best things that distinguish us most are many different pieces can be assembled and worn just like changing t-shirts depending on the mood.

What are your favourite pieces in your wardrobe?
In my closet can’t fail vintage foulards I love ‘cause I wear with all the clothes, an oversized mannish blazer, maxidress to wear with soft and oversize pull, hats, my shining clutch made by sequins and some rings and bijoux bought in NYC . Maybe one other item I love for its comfort is galoche that accompanies me on rainy and snowy days .. how can I do without? ..

What is your top fashion tip?
My advice is not to exceed the look we wear: remember that every occasion has its own, even if vast, dress code. By this I mean that the line between appropriate and inappropriate is very unstable, so we should wear only what makes us feel good, and what represents best our personality. Valorise ourselves and don’t trade our personal taste for a fashion accessory!

What is your favourite thing to do when not blogging?

Outside of the blogging I love staying in touch with nature, sports, photography, travel and experience different ethnic cuisines. But what I love most is stay awake until 4 am maybe reading, writing or watching talk shows next to a tea: this is my nerdy side!..

For you, what is the world’s most fashionable city?
It may sound corny but I think NY is the most fashionable city for some reasons. I experienced by my own its colors, scents, sense of style that reigns in all areas of the center and beyond. The 5 Av is definitely the street I preferred for street style and shopping as well but also places like Times Square can become a scene of wonderful outfits; these because in NY people are not just in fashion but creates fashion. There is anarchy! Every corner of Manhattan becomes a source of inspiration and I remember admiring how people live together perfectly with their style, even though weird. I love that atmosphere!

What message do you hope to send to your readers?
The message is very simple. We bloggers don’t propose an absolute model in fashion, but simply show our personal taste, style and thought. By this, I would like to say that it is right to follow the trends just as long as we like them and they truly represent us. “fashion” in my view is most of all synonymous with feeling comfortable with what you wear, embracing our true nature, which is rock, retro, bon ton, sportly or other, not forgetting to be sincerely ourselves!
