Meet the Fashion Bloggers El Diario de Pink Chick

22 January 2014

In this series, we’ve been interviewing some of our favorite fashion bloggers around the world, today our featured blogger is Soledad of El Diario de Pink Chick.

Soledad, tell us a little bit about yourself (who you are/what you do/where you’re from, etc.).
My name is Soledad Valenzuela, I’m a fashion blogger from Peru, I have a major in Communications with focus on Corporate Communications and HR Management. Right now I’m studying Digital Marketing, because of the impact my blog and social network has had on me. I think it’s very important to always keep studying.

How would you define your style?
I’d say its eclectic, but most influenced from rocker, boho chic and minimalist style. Although I love to wear a lot of bracelets, so I guess when it comes to accessorize my wrist, I like a lot of things! But mostly, I’d go for not so girlie style, I don’t like to wear flowers and romantic things. Don’t know why.

What inspired you to start a style blog? What motivates you to keep blogging?
I wanted a change. I have my blog for over 5 years now, but before it became a style blog (which was last year) it used to be a personal and very depressing blog. I used to write about my boyfriends, my weight, and my crappy life until I realized, it wasn’t worth it and now I think I was so dumb because my life wasn’t that horrible as I thought it was. It’s amazing. I decided to change my blog because I’ve been obsessed with clothes ever since I remember and I was in love with The Sartorialist and Childhood Flames until I discovered Style Scrapbook and bang! That was it. I wanted my blog to start talking about fashion, I didn’t change the name, because it was something I was attach to. What keeps me motivated it’s the self rehab I have about this because it really makes me happy to blog about what I like and to find people that like it too and take me as a role model for changing their lives, I can’t describe how that makes me feel.

How did you choose the name of your blog?
Well, because when I first opened it, I wanted a diary (El diario in Spanish is The diary) which my mom could not read, I was sure she wouldn’t go online and find it, so that’s why I put “The diary” on the name, then I wanted an alias, because it was anonymous at first. So that’s when “Pink Chick” came along. Chick because I have some friend who called me chicken and pink, because I love that colour!

What was the best comment you ever received from a reader?
That I motivated her to change and stop being depressed, that there was light at the end of the road. That comment made me cry of happiness.

Who/what inspires you?
I’m inspired by everything and everyone! But mostly street style, I love when people express themselves through clothes. I just love it.

What is your top fashion tip?
I’d say: be true to yourself, just because you see something amazing and everyone is wearing it, won’t mean you’ll have to wear it too, FIRST you have to see if it will fit you and your style.

What importance do social networks have for you?
A lot! That’s how you put your work out there and how you meet people and find opportunities.

Your first thought in the morning?
I wish I could stay at my house blogging all day, but I have to go to work.

For you, what is the world’s most fashionable city?
New York. Everyone dresses for themselves and doesn’t care about what people would say, something that it’s very difficult for some people in my country.
