Meet the Fashion Bloggers ExploRED in Los Angeles

22 January 2014

In this series, we’ve been interviewing some of our favorite fashion bloggers around the world, today our featured blogger is Tracy of ExploRED in Los Angeles.

Hi Tracy, tell us a little bit about yourself (who you are/what you do/where you’re from, etc.).

Although born in Los Angeles, I grew up in Dallas, Texas with my mom, dad and beautiful older sister. After high school, I decided to step out of my comfort zone a little bit and went to college at the University of Arizona in Tucson to study Journalism and Mass Communication. I was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority where I made amazing friends, went to plenty of incredible social events and most importantly, had 100 closets to borrow clothes from! My junior year of college, I left Tucson to study Global Communication in Barcelona, Spain. It was there that I learned so much about myself, different cultures and how can I forget, fashion. I traveled all over Europe and Greece for 6 months and ate unbelievable food, met the most interesting people, and had experiences I wouldn’t trade for the world. Upon coming back to the US and graduating from UA, I moved to LA where I am based now as an apothecary, fragrance and beauty buyer for a high-end retailer.

What inspired you to start a style blog? What motivates you to keep blogging?

I was inspired to start a fashion blog after a friend at work showed me a few of her favorites. I absolutely fell in love with what I saw and couldn’t stop clicking from blog, to blog, to blog. I was so intrigued obsessed with the entire idea of showcasing daily outfits and gaining inspiration from what others had put together. After a few weeks, I realized this was definitely something I was capable of. Being a journalism major, writing is something I love and to be able to mix it with photography and fashion is a huge bonus. Having a fashion blog is the perfect outlet to put everything I love in one place!

How did you choose the name of your blog?

I wanted it to be something that wasn’t TOO focused fashion because I do post about food, music, etc. as well. I wanted it to be something that could fit for everything. After brainstorming a bit about words and phrases that could incorporate this, I thought of explore, exploring, and finally, explored. Then, it only made sense to capitalize the RED (exploRED) to emphasis and play-on the fact that I have red hair.

What was the best comment you ever received from a reader?
Probably when someone said that they love my blog because it’s “realistic” and the could actually see themselves wearing the outfits I post. It kind of put everything into perspective for me because I realized what they said was true. I take the pictures in the morning before work so the outfits on my blog are actually what I wear on a daily basis not just for show. The things I post are attainable for most people and not just something to lust over. Someone also once said that I have better style than Kourtney Kardashian… which is crazy because she is definitely one of my style icons! I’m not sure if I believe them :)

Who/what inspires you?

Other bloggers! I feed off of their creativity and passion.
What are your favourite pieces in your wardrobe?
Currently, my favorite pieces are my burnt orange Rag & Bone jeggings, a vintage fur vest, my neon yellow clutch from Aldo (that looks like Proenza Schouler), and my new black trench coat by Skingraft from Kitson.

What is your top fashion tip?

Always dress according to what looks good on YOU and don’t just wear something because it’s “trendy.” Sometimes I find myself seeing something on someone else and wanting it so bad and then when I try it on I realize it’s just not for me. Don’t force it! Something better will always come along…

What advice do you have for new bloggers or people considering starting a blog?

Be brave! Figure out what is going to make your blog “different” and really focus on that. Also, don’t be discouraged if you don’t get the immediate reaction you are hoping for, good things take time!

What importance do social networks have for you?

Social networks have had a HUGE impact on my blog! Twitter, Facebook, other blogs, etc. have allowed me to network in ways I would not have been able to otherwise. I’ve met great people, have had the chance to collaborate with and also be featured on different online publications. I get so excited thinking about the fact that I’ve had the chance to share my blog with people all over the world.

Your first thought in the morning?

What is the weather going to be like today? I always need to know this before deciding on an outfit.
