Meet the Fashion Bloggers J’s Everyday Fashion

23 January 2014

In this series, we’ve been interviewing some of our favorite fashion bloggers around the world, today our featured blogger is J’s Everyday Fashion.

Tell us a little bit about yourself (who you are/what you do/where you’re from, etc.).
I’m J, I’m 28, and I’m a full-time blogger and fashion/writing/marketing freelancer. I studied journalism at the University of Kansas and had a career in corporate marketing in Boston, before starting J’s Everyday Fashion in 2010. I live in Orlando.

How would you define your style?
Colorful. I crave color like a person craves food.

How did you find your sense of style?
Trial and error. Part of the appeal of my blog is that I’m not a fashion expert, and I haven’t always been this stylish. I believe personal style is a muscle that can be exercised and conditioned to be better, with just a little time and effort!

What inspired you to start a style blog? What motivates you to keep blogging?
I started my blog because I’m passionate about bringing more realistic resources to fashion journalism. I want to speak to women on a budget, who need help with style and practical tips for getting dressed. The goal for my blog is to make fashion more accessible, more realistic, less intimidating and something that everyone feels welcome to enjoy. My wonderful readers are what motivate me to keep blogging!

How did you choose the name of your blog?
I Googled a ton of different budget phrases, but “everyday fashion” stuck out to me (and no one was using it). It’s so simple and yet says so much – it means “ordinary, regular, realistic” to me.

What was the best comment you ever received from a reader?
I love all of them – but especially when someone is excited to find the kind of fashion website they have been looking for for ages. That is a great feeling.

Who/what inspires you?
I’m inspired by all kinds of fashion. I love Vogue, I love runway photos and consider them art. I also get inspiration from catalogs (J.Crew is the best) and online fashion newsletters.

What is your top fashion tip?
Fashion mistakes are absolutely the best way to learn, so don’t be afraid to make them.

What importance do social networks have for you?
I use Facebook as my main blogging platform, so in essence social networks are my blog! The internet is fascinating though – there is a whole world online and social networks are your road inside.

Your first thought in the morning?
“Can’t wait to check the comments on this morning’s blog post!”

What is your favourite thing to do when not blogging?
Traveling is my favorite, followed closely by fitness, water sports, and doing anything outdoors or with animals.

For you, what is the world’s most fashionable city?
Paris or NYC.

How would you describe fashion in the city where you live?
Orlando is very touristy and casual, but I love to dress up anyway!

What message do you hope to send to your readers?
Fashion is for everyone – and that includes you. Feel free to experiment and have fun with it, right alongside me!
